Introducing District 7 Vice President Dan Schaeffer

Daniel G. Schaeffer
President
Schaeffer Electric Company
St. Louis, MO
St. Louis Chapter, NECA

BACKGROUND
Typical of most family businesses, Dan became involved with Schaeffer Electric Co. at an early age, working Saturdays and during summer vacations. He graduated from St. Louis University in 1972 with a degree and communications and business. After a few years in sales, he returned to Schaeffer Electric Co. full time in 1976.

COMPANY INFORMATION
Schaeffer Electric Co. was established in 1935 by Dan’s grandfather, Carl I. Schaeffer. Dan’s father was the oldest of 16 children, many of whom worked in the business at some point in their lives. Now in its third generation, Schaeffer Electric Co. remains family owned and operated.

Schaeffer Electric Co. began in the residential market and continues to perform residential service work today. Over time, it moved into the commercial market. The company’s primary business today is commercial wiring, with divisions in low voltage wiring and lighting maintenance.

INVOLVEMENT WITH NECA
Schaeffer Electric Co. has been a NECA chapter member since the 1940s. Schaeffer was elected to the St. Louis Chapter board of directors in 1993 and went on to serve on several local committees, including the Electrical Connection Committee, a joint committee with IBEW Local 1. As a member of the chapter’s Executive Board, he has been chapter treasurer, president and governor and is presently a trustee on the local Health and Welfare Joint Committee. Nationally, Schaeffer has served on the Marketing and Management Development Committees.

“My proudest moment was probably [becoming] chapter president in 2004,” Schaeffer said. “My grandfather served as president in the mid-1940s and my father, Jerry, in the 1970s. NECA provided much of my early training as it relates to our business, and NECA has been a great resource to me and our company.”

OUT OF THE OFFICE
Dan and his wife Kathy celebrated their 36th wedding anniversary in June. They have four children and two granddaughters. Schaeffer’s son Brian joined the company in 2007, putting the fourth generation in place. Dan also enjoys golf, photography and traveling with Kathy and their friends whenever possible.
